Glossary

1 Design Flow Rate

Size your oil water separator based on the gallons per minute (GPM) flow. It’s best to use the anticipated peak flow to ensure full removal at a potential max rate.

2 Capacity

As a rule of thumb, capacity of the overall tank is 10 times greater than the anticipated flow rate in gallons per minute (GPM). For example if you have a 100 GPM flow rate, sound design calls for nominally a 1000 Gallon tank

3 Frequency of cleaning

Depending on the concern for quality treatment results, companies will clean their coalescing media at varying frequency. One of the advantages of buying a Mercer Multi-Packâ„¢ coalescer will be elongating the time between required cleanings.

5 Frequency of primary coalescer replacement

Depending on the concern for quality treatment results, companies will change their coalescing media at varying frequency. While you will never have to replace a Multi-Packâ„¢ coalecer when buying from Mercer, it is important to consider how often your company will be required to replace the coalecing media if it is not designed with the long term removal efficiencies in mind.

6 Frequency of replacement for secondary mesh

Secondary mesh coalescers are sometimes used as polishing elements when primary coalescers may not exhibit consistent performance. The frequency of replacement also varies based on the environmental oversight from company to company, but is usually used as a last line defense with little predictability behind implementation.

7 Wastewater disposal costs

There are varying maintenance regimens each company follows, and every scheduled cleaning can be tackled differently. When a full cleaning is scheduled that normally entails the complete draining of a unit, followed by a detailed cleaning of the interior of a unit. Disposal costs for removing this oily water varies depending on where your facility is located, but the cost for disposing of this is generated by a given rate per gallon. The calculator has three commonly used disposal rates, but also allows you to enter the rate you are currently paying.

8 Average Labor Rates

Depending on where your installation is located the rates, be it internally or through an environmental service company, will vary. Please select from the available options or enter a rate that is more in line with your knowledge of specific hourly wages
